Witchhead Nebula
Index Catalog: IC 2118
Constellation: Orion

The Witchhead Nebula is the reflection of the bright blue light of Rigel, Orion's second brightest star, the one that you see to the lower right when you watch the well known constellation. Within my picture you won't find Rigel, because it is to the left of the field of view. It just caused the reflection you see at the edge of the frame.

The name of the object is derived from the resemblance when you watch it upside down.

I was late to capture this object which is rather a winter target for astrophotographers. Together with the low altitute of the object the sky background started to disturb the picture at the bottom edge. Nevertheless, I thought it is worth sharing the picture with you.
