Here is another busy area of the winter milky way. In the upper right part of the picture you see the the pair of open star clusters M35 and NGC 2158. At the lower left you see the umbrella-shaped gas nebula IC443, which is probably the remnant of an ancient supernova. It is just the brighter part of an extensive but faint complex of gas and dust we encounter so often in surveys along the band that in dark nights we recognize as the faint glow of our home galaxy.
