North America Nebula
New general catalog of nebulae and clusters of stars: NGC 7000
Constellation: Cygnus - The Swan

This exposure was taken through a deep-red filter which reduces the light of terrestial sources and gives full transparency to the H-α-line at 656 nm wavelength. With a technique like this the faint hydrogen nebula, which is visible only through large aperture binoculars beneath a very dark summer sky, can be recorded with fine contrast.
