California Nebula
New general catalog of nebulae and clusters of stars: NGC 1499
Constellation: Perseus

The California Nebula is a hydrogen gas cloud faintly glowing in the deep red of ionized hydrogen, the so-called H-α-line.

Only the darkest skies allow the amateur to choose exposure times long enough to capture the nebulosity which was named after the US state because of the similar shape. (Tilt your head to the right!)
