The Andromeda Galaxy was a prime target from my first days of astrophotography. However, as optics technology advanced throughout the decades I decided to make another move in terms of equipment: My new 80 mm refractor lens consists of 3 elements instead of 2, thus making for excellent definition beyond the usual APSC-format. That's why Michael Posavec and I had the idea to use his full-frame EOS 6D to capture the showcase galaxy on the autumn sky.
This optical setup requires delicate fine tuning when it comes to focussing, specifically if the temperature changes throughout the night. But within the more than three hours we had good luck and good feeling about the right time to check and readjust.
