A Globular Cluster Without a Core
New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars: NGC 5466
Constellation: Bootes - The Herdsman

What happened to this globular star cluster? You may have seen plenty of them on my page but hardly any of them had so little concentration towards the center like NGC5466. In fact, on the scale of "condensation" indicated with roman numerals it has the poorest concentration towards the center indicated with a top XII score.

The night was not optimal and seeing was extremely changable. Eventually I had to throw away half an hour of exposure to obtain a - well, somewhat mediocer sharpness in the final picture. The reason why I still posted the picture is the remarkable structure of the object and the new optics combination I tested previously under similarily difficult conditions. But I expect the combination of my 8" scope with 0.8x focal reduction at 1297 mm focal length to become one of my favourite optics in the near future. Have a look at the shot of M 92 in the same gallery!
