After a few previous attempts I knew what the next destinations for my H-α picture collection were. The two nebulosities in eastern Cassiopeia were top on my list for my November 2023. The so-called "Heart Nebula" catalogued as Sharpless 190 is named after the apparent shape. I am just hesitant whether it is better to look at it as it is and consider it an anatomic depiction of a human heart or turn it clockwise and see the heart icon.
The name "Soul Nebula" for Sharpless 199 to the lower left in turn is entirely enigmatic. Apart from the obvious fact that there is no icon for a soul, I would rather rotate the picture clockwise until it appears to be the "Vomitting French Bulldog Nebula"...
To me it is just exciting how much detail can be seen at all levels, the dark globules dividing the brighter areas and fainter, small nebulae in the outskirts of this vast complex of interstellar gas.
