In Spring 2026 solar activity forecasts predicted lower and lower activity. This is why I thoght it would be worth giving our sun another look. The well-known tendency of sun spots to rally around lower solar latitudes continued. Look how closely the sun spots are aligned around the solar equator compared to pictures taken a few years ago!
But regardless of the fewer and smaller sun spot groups, I was surprised about the ongoing complexity they show.
Is this the end of the solar cycle #25 story?
If I am lucky, probably not. I am planning to see the total eclipse in northern Spain later this year in August.
If weather permits, you will be reading reports here about my trip and my observations. Stay tuned for updates!
