Prominences and the Inner Corona
30 % Cropped Frame

(minimum resolution: 800 x 600 - best resolution: 1024 x 768)

If I had a second chance, I would choose an exposure time 1 step shorter, 1/250 sec instead of 1/125. But in the end I am not at all dissatisfied with the quality of the picture. While the bright and structured complex of prominences to the lower left, quite at the same position at which the sun hid behind the moon just a few seconds ago, is close to saturation, the much more delicate sprites to the right and to the upper left are well defined, together with the streaks and curls of the inner corona. I did not expect that much level of detail there.

The pattern of prominences is a unique finger print of all solar eclipses and all observers who actually watched a total eclipse of the sun will remember the shape of the bracelet around the occulting moon.
